Sauna Installation

How much does a home sauna installation cost?

In Los Angeles most home sauna installations land in a wide band depending on room size, heater and how much of the space has to be rebuilt. A small two-person indoor conversion in an already framed closet is the low end. A six-person cedar room with a premium heater, new circuit and glass door is mid-range. Outdoor cabins with a foundation, roof and buried electrical run are the top end. We quote flat-rate after a site visit, with the heater, wiring, venting and permit included.

What are the electrical requirements for a sauna heater?

Nearly every electric sauna heater needs a dedicated 240V circuit with no other loads on it. A 4.5kW heater typically needs 30 amps, a 6kW heater 30 to 40 amps, a 8 to 9kW heater 40 to 50 amps and a 10.5 to 12kW heater 60 amps. The wire has to be sized for the run length and the heater has to be hard-wired, not plugged in. We check your panel capacity first, because older Los Angeles homes on a 100-amp service often need a subpanel or a service upgrade before a large heater is viable.

Can I install a sauna without a permit?

Not legally in Los Angeles, and not safely. The dedicated 240V circuit requires an electrical permit in every jurisdiction we work in. Framing a new room or building an outdoor structure adds a building permit, and a wood-fired heater adds a combustion and venting permit. Unpermitted work turns into a problem at resale, during an insurance claim, or on the day something fails. We pull every permit as part of the install and coordinate the inspections.

How long does a sauna installation take?

An indoor conversion in a space that is already framed usually runs one to two weeks on site once materials arrive, plus permit lead time. A full closet or garage conversion runs two to three weeks. Outdoor builds with a foundation take four to six weeks. The heater and wood order is normally the longest lead item, so we place it as soon as the spec is signed.

Which brands provide eco-friendly sauna heaters and steam generators?

We install across the major brands and can spec efficient units in any of them. On the electric side, look for heaters with well-insulated cabinets, high stone mass and a modern digital control with a scheduling timer, because holding heat efficiently matters far more than the nameplate rating. On the steam side, look for auto-drain and auto-flush generators, which use less water and last considerably longer in hard-water areas like ours. We are not tied to one manufacturer, so we will spec whatever fits your room and budget.

What are the benefits of hiring a professional sauna builder?

Three things you cannot get from a DIY build. First, the shell: correct insulation, a continuous foil vapor barrier and properly sized intake and exhaust vents are what make a room hold 190 degrees efficiently, and they are all hidden behind the paneling where mistakes are expensive to fix. Second, the electrical: a licensed, permitted, correctly sized 240V circuit that will pass inspection and satisfy your insurer. Third, the carpentry: solid wood moves with heat and moisture, and a finish carpenter builds in the tolerances that keep panels tight and benches quiet for twenty years.

What are the typical costs associated with building a custom home sauna?

Budget in four buckets. The shell, meaning framing, insulation, vapor barrier and venting. The interior, meaning paneling, benches, door and glass. The mechanical, meaning the heater, the dedicated circuit and the controls. And the soft costs, meaning permits, inspection and design. On a typical indoor custom build the interior and the mechanical are the two largest, and the shell is where cutting corners costs you the most later. We break the quote out along these lines so you can see where the money goes.

How much does it cost to hire a professional sauna builder in the US?

Nationally, professional sauna builds run from the price of a mid-range kitchen refresh at the small indoor end to a full room addition at the large outdoor end. Los Angeles sits above the national average, mostly because of permit costs, labour rates and the fact that a lot of local homes need panel work before a big heater is possible. We quote flat-rate rather than hourly, so the number you approve is the number you pay.

Which wood is best for a custom sauna?

Western red cedar is the default for good reason: it is dimensionally stable, naturally rot-resistant, low in resin and it smells like a sauna should. Hemlock is a good choice if you want a pale, neutral, almost odourless room. Nordic spruce reads as traditional Finnish. For benches specifically, thermo-aspen and African abachi are worth the upgrade because they stay noticeably cooler against skin. Most of our builds mix species, using cedar on the walls and abachi or thermo-aspen on the benches.

Can you match the sauna to the rest of my house?

Yes, and it is most of what makes a custom build worth doing. We match the door and window hardware to your existing finishes, run the exterior cladding to match your siding on outdoor builds, and select stain and trim on the outside face so the sauna reads as part of the room rather than an appliance dropped into it.

Custom Sauna Design

Can I hire you for design only?

Yes. A good share of our design clients build with their own contractor. You receive the renderings, the dimensioned layout, the wood and hardware schedule, the electrical spec and the ventilation diagram, and you own all of it. If you later decide to have us build, the design fee comes off the construction quote.

How long does the design phase take?

Usually one to two weeks from the site visit to the first rendering, then a few days per revision round. Most projects settle after two rounds. Commercial projects with architect coordination take longer, typically three to four weeks.

How do you decide the bench height?

Bench height is driven by ceiling height, not by preference. Heat stratifies, so the top bench should sit roughly 40 to 44 inches below the ceiling to put your head in the hottest usable layer, with the lower bench about 18 inches below that as a step and a cooler seat. Getting this wrong is the most common flaw we find in kit installs and DIY builds, and it is the reason some saunas never feel hot enough no matter how big the heater is.

What lighting options can you design in?

Warm dimmable LED behind the backrests is the workhorse and the most flattering. Fibre-optic star ceilings, backlit salt walls, recessed floor washes and traditional shaded bench lights all work. Everything inside the hot room has to be rated for the temperature and the humidity, and drivers and transformers live outside the room, which is a detail we plan at design stage rather than improvise later.

Do you design commercial saunas?

Yes. Gym and athletic club locker rooms, hotel and spa wellness suites and multi-unit residential amenity rooms. Commercial design adds ADA-compliant bench access, slip-rated decking, group-capacity ventilation calculations, commercial-grade controls with lockouts and timers, and coordination with the architect, the GC and the authority having jurisdiction.

Infrared Saunas

How do traditional saunas compare to modern infrared saunas?

A traditional sauna heats the air, typically to 170 to 200 degrees, and you can pour water on the stones for steam, which is the löyly that defines a Finnish sauna. An infrared sauna leaves the air at 120 to 150 degrees and warms your body directly with radiant emitters, so it feels much milder and there is no steam. Traditional gives you the classic experience, the ritual and the option of wet or dry heat, at the cost of a bigger electrical service and a longer warm-up. Infrared gives you shorter warm-up, lower running cost, an easier install and gentler sessions. Neither is a replacement for the other, which is why we build hybrids for clients who want both.

Does an infrared sauna need a special circuit?

Almost always a dedicated one, though usually a modest one. Most one and two-person cabins run on a dedicated 20-amp 120V circuit. Three and four-person full-spectrum units generally need 240V. What matters is that the circuit is dedicated, because sharing it with lights or a laundry outlet leads to nuisance trips.

Can you install infrared in an apartment or a second-floor room?

Yes, and it is where infrared shines. The units are light, the temperatures are low enough that the surrounding construction does not need rebuilding, and the electrical demand is small. We still confirm floor loading for larger cabins and make sure there is clearance behind the unit for airflow.

How long does an infrared session take?

Preheat is 10 to 15 minutes and a typical session is 30 to 45 minutes. Because the air stays comfortable you can stay in far longer than in a traditional room, and most people find a longer, milder session easier to make into a daily habit.

Can I add infrared to a sauna I already have?

Often, yes. If the room has accessible wall cavities we can retrofit emitter panels behind the backrests and add a separate control, turning an existing traditional room into a hybrid. We check the wiring capacity and the wall construction first, because panels need to be mounted into the framing rather than surface-fixed to the paneling.

Traditional Saunas

What temperature should a traditional sauna reach?

A properly built Finnish room runs 175 to 195 degrees at the top bench, with humidity from around 10 percent dry up to 30 percent after a few ladles on the stones. If your room struggles past 160, the usual culprits are an undersized heater, missing or discontinuous vapor barrier, uninsulated exterior walls, or a large glass door that was never accounted for in the heater sizing.

Electric or wood-fired?

Electric for almost every indoor build and most backyard builds. It heats on a timer, needs no fuel storage and produces no smoke, which matters on small Los Angeles lots. Wood-fired for detached outdoor builds where you have clearance for a flue, somewhere to keep split wood dry, and a genuine preference for the ritual. Wood-fired also keeps working when the power is out, which some clients value more than the convenience they give up.

What is löyly and why does it need a specific heater?

Löyly is the wave of steam and heat that rolls off the stones when you pour water on them. Producing it repeatedly needs stone mass, because each ladle pulls heat out of the stones. A small heater with 20 pounds of stones gives you one good ladle and then goes flat. A heater carrying 90 to 200 pounds gives you a full session. This is the single spec most people overlook when they buy a heater themselves.

How is a dry sauna different from a steam room?

A dry sauna runs hot and dry, 175 to 195 degrees at 10 to 20 percent humidity, on a stone-loaded heater in a solid wood room. A steam room runs cool and saturated, 110 to 120 degrees at 100 percent humidity, fed by a steam generator into a fully tiled and waterproofed enclosure. They feel completely different and they are built completely differently. We install both.

How often should I use a traditional sauna?

The observational research most people cite found the strongest associations at four or more sessions per week, 15 to 20 minutes each. That is a useful benchmark, though the honest answer is that the sauna that gets used regularly is the one that heats quickly and sits somewhere convenient, which is a design question as much as a health one.

Steam Saunas

What is the difference between a steam sauna and a steam shower?

Functionally very little. A steam shower is a shower enclosure that has been sealed, waterproofed to the ceiling and fitted with a steam generator, so it does both jobs. A dedicated steam room is built only for steam, usually with bench seating, no showerhead and a larger footprint. The construction requirements are the same: a sealed vapour-proof enclosure, a sloped ceiling and a floor drain.

How big a steam generator do I need?

Start with the cubic footage of the enclosure, then add for the surface materials. Acrylic and fibreglass need the least. Ceramic tile adds roughly a fifth. Natural stone, glass block and exterior walls can add half again or more, because they absorb heat and radiate it away. Undersizing is the most common mistake, and it shows up as a room that takes twenty minutes to build steam and never quite gets there. We calculate it rather than estimate it.

Can you convert my existing shower into a steam shower?

Usually yes, if the waterproofing is sound and there is somewhere within reasonable pipe distance for the generator. The work is sealing the enclosure to the ceiling, sloping the ceiling if it is flat, fitting a steam-rated door with a full seal, running the steam and drain lines, and adding the dedicated circuit. If the existing pan or membrane is suspect we rebuild it, because a leak behind a steam enclosure is a much bigger problem than a leak behind a shower.

How much maintenance does a steam generator need?

In Los Angeles, more than the manufacturer suggests, because our water is hard. An auto-flush generator handles most of it on its own and should still be descaled once or twice a year. A manual unit needs draining after heavy use and descaling quarterly. Scale build-up is the single biggest cause of premature generator failure, and it is entirely preventable.

Can I have a steam room and a dry sauna in the same space?

Yes, and it is a common request on larger projects. They have to be separate enclosures because the construction is completely different, one sealed and tiled, the other insulated and wood-lined. Placed side by side with a shower between them you get a proper contrast circuit, and adding a cold plunge completes it.

Barrel Saunas

How do I choose the right sauna for a small backyard?

Work backwards from three constraints. First, setbacks: most Los Angeles jurisdictions require a few feet from the property line for a structure, which quietly rules out the corner most people had in mind. Second, the power run: the further the barrel sits from the panel, the more the trenching costs, so a spot closer to the house is usually cheaper. Third, seating: be honest about how many people will actually use it, because a four-person barrel is far cheaper to buy and to run than a six. For most small yards a six or seven-foot barrel with an electric heater on a paver pad is the sweet spot.

Does a barrel sauna need a foundation?

It needs a level, well-drained base, though not necessarily a poured foundation. On flat, firm ground a compacted gravel bed with pavers under each cradle works well and is what we build most often. On sloped, soft or poorly drained sites we pour footings or a slab. What you cannot do is set it straight on soil or grass, because the cradles will sink unevenly, the door will bind and the bands will loosen.

How long does a barrel sauna last outdoors in Los Angeles?

Fifteen to twenty-five years for a cedar barrel that stays off wet ground and gets its bands re-tensioned. Our climate is kind to them, though coastal salt air is harder on the steel bands and the heater than inland sites, so near the water we specify stainless hardware. Leaving it unsealed and letting it grey is perfectly fine structurally, and it is what most owners choose.

Can you assemble a barrel kit I already ordered?

Yes, and it is a good share of our barrel work. Send us the brand and model and where it is going. We inventory the shipment when it lands, flag anything missing early, build the pad, run the power, assemble to the manufacturer instructions so the warranty stays valid, and run the first burn.

Wood-fired or electric for a backyard barrel?

Electric if you want it on a timer and ready when you get home, and if trenching a circuit to the spot is straightforward. Wood-fired if you have somewhere dry to keep split wood, do not mind a 45-minute warm-up, and want the version with the fire in it. Wood-fired also avoids the electrical trench entirely, which on a large lot can make it the cheaper install.

Indoor Saunas

Is a sauna in your house worth it?

If you will use it, yes, on two counts. The practical one is convenience: an indoor sauna twenty feet from your bedroom gets used three or four times a week, where a gym sauna gets used when you happen to be at the gym and a garden sauna gets skipped in bad weather. The financial one is that a well-built indoor sauna is a genuine differentiator at resale in the Los Angeles market. The honest caveat is that a badly built one is worth very little, because buyers and inspectors can tell, so the value comes from doing it properly rather than from having one at all.

Do saunas increase property value?

A permitted, professionally built sauna generally contributes to value and, more reliably, to marketability. It shows up in listings, it photographs well and it puts a house in a different bracket from otherwise comparable properties. What appraisers and buyers respond to is evidence it was done right: pulled permits, a licensed electrical install, quality wood and a room that clearly holds heat. An unpermitted DIY build in a garage corner tends to read as a liability rather than an asset, and can complicate a sale.

Can you put a sauna in a basement?

Yes, and basements are one of our most common indoor locations. They are close to the panel, they are already cool and structurally contained, and they usually have the floor area. The two things to solve are ventilation, since there may be no adjacent exterior wall to vent through, and existing moisture, since a slab without a vapour break will keep pushing damp into the build. Both are solvable and both need to be handled before the room is lined.

Will a sauna damage the room around it?

Not when it is built correctly, and quite badly when it is not. The whole job of the foil vapor barrier is to stop moisture migrating into your framing and insulation. It has to be continuous, lapped and taped at every seam and carried across the ceiling. Combined with correct intake and exhaust venting, the surrounding structure stays dry. Rooms that rot are almost always rooms where the barrier was skipped, punctured or stopped short at the ceiling.

What size room do I need for an indoor sauna?

A comfortable two-person room starts around 4 by 5 feet. Four people need roughly 6 by 7. Ceiling height matters more than people expect: seven feet is ideal, anything under about six and a half compromises the bench geometry and the room never feels properly hot. If you are short on height we can rework the bench plan, though it is worth knowing about before you commit to the space.

Outdoor Saunas

Can I have a sauna in my backyard?

In almost every Los Angeles-area yard, yes, subject to setbacks and a permit. The usual constraints are how close the structure may sit to the property line, how much total accessory structure square footage the lot already has, and whether you are in a hillside, coastal or fire-hazard overlay with additional requirements. Detached accessory structures are common and routinely approved. We check your parcel before design starts so nobody finds out about a setback problem after the foundation is poured.

What permits are required for constructing an outdoor sauna?

Typically three. A building permit for the structure, its foundation and its roof. An electrical permit for the trenched circuit, the disconnect and the heater tie-in. And, if the heater burns wood, a mechanical or combustion permit for the flue, the clearances and the spark arrestor. Some jurisdictions add a zoning or planning review for accessory structures, and hillside or very-high fire hazard severity zones add their own conditions. We pull all of them and manage the inspections.

Does an outdoor sauna need a foundation?

It needs a base that keeps the structure level and off wet ground, and what that means depends on the site. Flat, firm, well-drained ground can take a compacted gravel and paver base. Slope, soft soil or poor drainage call for piers, footings or a slab. Permitted structures over a certain size generally need an engineered foundation regardless, which the plan check will specify.

How does an outdoor sauna hold up in the Los Angeles climate?

Well, with two caveats. Sun is the main enemy here rather than rain, and untreated cedar on a south or west elevation will grey and check faster than most people expect, so we either orient the building thoughtfully or specify a UV-resistant finish. Near the coast, salt air attacks fasteners, bands and heater elements, so we specify stainless hardware and a marine-grade heater on coastal sites.

Can you build the sauna next to my pool?

Yes, and it is one of our favourite scopes because the deck, the drainage and often the power are already in place. The details that matter are keeping chlorinated splash off the cedar, ensuring the deck drains away from the building rather than under it, and coordinating the electrical with the existing pool equipment circuit so nothing is shared. Pool barrier and gate requirements sometimes affect where the door can face, which we check at siting.

Commercial Saunas

How is a commercial sauna different from a residential one?

Four ways that matter. Duty cycle, because a room running sixteen hours a day needs continuous-duty heaters and heavier stone mass. Ventilation, sized for group occupancy rather than a family. Accessibility, meaning ADA bench access, clearances and reach ranges. And controls, which have to keep scheduling and temperature with staff while giving you lockouts and over-temperature protection. The carpentry looks similar from the doorway and almost nothing behind it is the same.

Can you work with our architect and general contractor?

Yes, and on new construction that is how it should go. We issue shop drawings, electrical load and mechanical requirements early enough to land in the MEP set, attend coordination meetings, and handle the AHJ correspondence for the sauna scope. Bringing us in after the walls are framed is possible and usually costs more, because the heater feeder and the ventilation path both become retrofits.

Can you replace a commercial sauna without closing the facility?

Usually yes, with phasing. If you have two rooms we rebuild one at a time. If you have one, we sequence demolition, shell and fit-out to compress the closed window and work out of hours where it helps. We agree the phasing plan and the closure window before we start, so you can tell members what to expect.

What maintenance does a commercial sauna need?

Daily staff checks on the control and the door seal, weekly cleaning of benches and floor with a sauna-safe sanitiser, quarterly professional service on the heater, stones, sensors and ventilation, and annual inspection of the wood and the vapour barrier. Stones break down under heavy cycling and need replacing roughly annually in a hard-worked room. We put commercial clients on a scheduled plan because reactive repairs mean unplanned closures.

Do you build infrared and steam for commercial sites?

Yes. Recovery studios often want full-spectrum infrared cabins alongside a traditional room, and hotel spas usually want a steam room in the circuit. All three have different code, ventilation and finish requirements, and we build and coordinate them together so the mechanical and electrical scope is resolved once rather than three times.

Sauna Repair

Tips for maintaining a personal sauna unit?

Five habits cover almost everything. Run the vent open and leave the door ajar for twenty minutes after each session so the wood dries. Wipe benches with a damp cloth and a sauna-safe cleaner, never varnish or seal the interior wood. Sit on a towel, because body oils are what darken benches. Turn the stones over once a year and replace them when they start crumbling, usually every one to three years. And check the door seal each season, because a door that no longer closes tightly is the most common reason a room stops reaching temperature.

My sauna heater will not turn on. What is it likely to be?

In order of likelihood: the high-limit cutout has tripped and needs resetting and investigating, the temperature sensor has failed, the control board or timer has died, or the contactor is not pulling in. Failed elements usually show as a room that heats slowly rather than one that does nothing at all. All of these are far cheaper than a new heater, which is why we diagnose before quoting.

How often should sauna stones be replaced?

Every one to three years for a home sauna used regularly, and annually or more in a commercial room. Stones fracture and crumble with repeated heating and cooling, and the debris packs down and blocks airflow through the heater. That is one of the most common causes of a room that used to get hot and no longer does. It is a cheap fix and it is routinely overlooked.

Can you repair a sauna you did not build?

Yes, that is most of our repair work. Kit installs, builder-installed rooms, saunas that came with the house and twenty-year-old commercial rooms. We work across every major heater brand and plenty of imports. If a room is genuinely past economic repair we will tell you that plainly rather than sell you a sequence of repairs that only delays it.

Why does my sauna smell bad?

Bacteria growing in wood that never dries out between sessions, which is a ventilation problem far more often than a cleaning problem. The fix is usually correcting the intake and exhaust, sanding the affected wood back and changing how the room is aired after use. Sealing or varnishing the wood makes it considerably worse, so if a previous owner did that it has to come off.

Cedar Tub Install

Do cedar tubs leak?

Not once they have swelled. A cedar tub works like a barrel: the staves absorb water, expand and lock tight against the steel bands. There is normally some weeping during the first fill, which stops within a day or two as the wood takes up. Filled within about thirty days of assembly and kept full afterwards, a properly built tub stays watertight for decades. The one thing to avoid is leaving it empty and dry for months, which lets the staves shrink.

What is a Japanese soaking tub and how is it different?

A Japanese ofuro is deeper and smaller in plan than a Western tub, designed for sitting upright and immersed to the shoulders rather than reclining. It uses less water for a deeper soak, fits into much tighter spaces, and is traditionally used after washing rather than instead of it. We build them in cedar and in hinoki-style profiles, indoors and out, for one or two bathers.

Why does the cover matter so much?

Because heat loss through the surface is where nearly all the running cost goes. An insulated, well-fitted cedar tub cover cuts standby heating dramatically, keeps leaves and dust out, and slows evaporation, which in turn keeps the water chemistry stable. We build the cover to the tub rather than buying a generic one, so it actually seals.

How much water maintenance does a cedar tub need?

Less than a conventional spa. Ozone and UV do most of the sanitising, so chemical dosing is a fraction of what a chlorinated tub needs. Practically it is a weekly water check, a monthly filter rinse and a drain and refill a few times a year. Around ten minutes a week. Heavy chlorine is actively bad for cedar, so keeping the chemical load low is both easier and better for the tub.

Can a cedar tub go indoors?

Yes, with three conditions. The floor has to be rated for the filled weight, which usually means reinforcing a timber subfloor. The room needs waterproof flooring and a drain or sump. And it needs proper ventilation, because a tub indoors puts a lot of humidity into the house. We handle all three as part of the install.

Cold Plunge Install

What should I look for when purchasing a backyard cold plunge?

Five things, roughly in order. Chiller capacity matched to your volume, your sun exposure and how many people will use it back to back, because an undersized chiller never quite holds temperature in summer. Real insulation in the tub walls and a fitted cover, which does more for running cost than any other single factor. Proper filtration with ozone or UV, so you are not draining it weekly. A drain and a base that can take the filled weight. And serviceable equipment with parts you can actually get, since a sealed unit with a proprietary chiller becomes scrap when it fails. Ask what horsepower is being proposed and why, and be sceptical of anyone who cannot answer.

How cold does it get and how long does it hold?

Our chiller-equipped plunges hold anywhere from 38 to 55 degrees year-round in Los Angeles, set by you. Once at temperature the chiller cycles to maintain it, so it is ready whenever you are. Recovery after a session is typically 30 to 60 minutes, faster with a well-insulated tub and a correctly sized chiller.

Cedar, fibreglass or stainless?

Fibreglass for value, durability and the easiest cleaning. Insulated cedar for the look and feel, at slightly more upkeep. Stainless for the premium, most hygienic option, which is what we specify for commercial and for clients who want a modern finish. All three work well when the insulation and the chiller are right.

Do I need a permit for a cold plunge?

Usually an electrical permit for the chiller circuit, and often a building permit depending on the size, whether it is sunken and how it is supported. Outdoor installs sometimes need a setback check. We pull whatever the jurisdiction requires and coordinate the inspections.

Can a cold plunge go indoors?

Yes. It needs waterproof flooring with a drain or sump, a floor rated for the filled weight, and ventilation for the chiller, which rejects heat into whatever room it sits in. Garages, basements and mechanical rooms all work well. We waterproof and ventilate the space as part of the install.

Sauna Kit Assembly

Can you assemble a kit I already bought?

Yes, and it is most of our kit work. Send us the brand, the model and where it is going. We quote assembly, rough-in, electrical and permits flat-rate, take delivery of the shipment, and inventory it against the manifest before assembly day so missing parts do not stall the job.

Which sauna kit brand should I choose?

It depends on where you are putting it and what you want from it. Designer imports have the best joinery and the best glass. Mid-range domestic kits are the value sweet spot for an indoor room. Outdoor barrels and cabins vary enormously in stave thickness and hardware quality, which is what separates the ones that last from the ones that do not. We are not tied to a brand, so we will tell you what actually differs between the ones you are considering.

Will my manufacturer warranty stay valid?

Yes. We build to manufacturer specification, use the supplied hardware, have the electrical done by a licensed electrician under permit, and document the install with photos and receipts so your warranty registration is clean. How long does kit assembly take?

Most indoor kits go up in three to five days once everything is on site. Outdoor cabins with a base and weather sealing run five to ten. The delays are almost always missing or damaged parts in the shipment, which is exactly why we inventory on arrival rather than on the first day of assembly.

Is a kit cheaper than a custom build?

On materials, usually yes. On total installed cost the gap is smaller than people expect, because the base, the electrical, the venting, the permit and the trim are the same work either way. Kits make most sense when the space is a simple rectangle and you like what the kit looks like. Once you start modifying a kit to fit an awkward room, a custom build is often both better and no more expensive.
